(2- Mins Read) - Nuapatna Collection from Priyadarshini Handloom
Hey Gorgeous! This read will help you understand why Nuapatna, locally referred to as Cuttacki/Katki Silk and in Odisha, is specifically called Khandua. Right enough with the terminology. Let's see what makes them unique and if you are new here pay attention. Every Saree has 3 distinct parts in handloom (ikat): Body, Pallu or Anchal and the Border.
In Nuapatna Silk or Khandua, the designs are inspired by artists drawing inspiration from Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha. You can notice the motifs shaped in the form of Shell (Shank), and the borders consist of illustrations of temple shaped triangles. The weave is a light silk weave that uses the age-old technique of 'bandha' and is lightweight compared to temporary silks, and this makes it ideal amongst our working women who love the grace of the saree but not the hassle of wearing it. The body is decorated with small motifs complementing the saree borders and pallu.
